CHS FOOTBALL NEWSLETTER

CHS Football Newsletter 11/30, p. 2
I hope that you had a great Turkey Day, and you and your family had the opportunity to spend time together. My wife has stenciled this saying above our dining room table, “Faith, Family, Friends & Football”, I can’t think of four more important things to be thankful for. Although, at times I have gotten them in the wrong order – oops!
I know that as a Football Family/Team, we have much to be thankful for; first, we are still playing football. Secondly, we have the opportunity to avenge a loss from earlier this season, not often in life do you get “do-over’s or bingos”, we have that chance. Let’s make sure that we take full advantage of this opportunity to make amends for our earlier loss. In our heart of hearts, we know that we should have won that game, now let’s go out and take it.
We talk about playing 48 minutes, I should think that after Brophy and Hamilton, we know how it feels when we only play 46 minutes. I heard Coach Gene Chizik of Auburn tell his players not to look at the scoreboard in their game vs. Alabama, but to concentrate on being in a ‘street fight’, I like this analogy. Except that I think that our game is going to be more like a heavy weight prize fight. It is going to go the full 12 rounds. We need to win the last 30 seconds of each round, in reality; we need to win each quarter, win the first half, but most importantly – win the second half. If we win the second half, we will have played 48 minutes; we will have fought 12 rounds. We don’t need to keep checking the scoreboard, we just need to look across the line of scrimmage – did I win the last play – what am I doing to win the next play. If we win more plays, we will win the game.
I can’t tell you how many people are pulling/rooting for us, but the reality is this – we need to go out and win the game. Hopefully, you have been dreaming about this game for weeks, for months, even years – I know that I have. I want this for you, your older brothers, your folks, the guys who have played before you; the list goes on and on. The group that I want it the most – the Seniors and my wife. You guys deserve this – you do! So, let’s prepare this week like we have never prepared before. At some point, it comes down to who blocks and tackles the best, it still is a game, a game that who plays the smartest should win. The last I heard, we are an IB school, so that makes us the smartest.
GO WOLVES!
